Scrutineering Procedures,  1/24 Saloon front Wheels and 1/32 Saloon Motor Cans

Following queries after two recent BOC meetings, BSCRA has reviewed scrutineering procedures. The key things that have come out of this review are:

It is still the driver's responsibility to ensure their car complies with the rules and they should seek advice before scrutineering, if they are unsure.

The Scrutineers have an unenviable task and try their best to make sure that the cars comply with the rules. They should advise the driver accordingly of any ineligibilities with the car and, time permitting, allow any changes to be made. It is the responsibility of the race controller to decide if there is enough time to fix ineligible cars. Any car that has not passed scrutineering should not be allowed to race. The BSCRA recommends a "Parc Ferme" for scrutineered cars where reasonably practicable.

In the two incidents discussed (see below), it was decided that the cars were scrutineered, following an acceptable procedure, but the scrutineers did not see any ineligibility at the time.

Where there is evidence of possible ineligibilities after the event, photographic or otherwise, the CRC will continue to investigate the individual case, but as per the BSCRA Handbook, the result on the day will stand, except in exceptional circumstances. Once again, it is the driver's responsibility to ensure their car complies with BSCRA rules.

It was agreed that at future BOCs, the scrutineers must give attention to enforcing the existing rules which appear to have been overlooked at some recent meetings – including;

The “rigid front wheel” rule in the 1/24 Production class
The “no removing metal from the front of the can”  rule in the 1/32 Saloon class.

1/32 Saloon Front Wheels

BSCRA has been asked to clarify the position on vacuum formed lexan front wheels.

1 Lexan front wheels are eligible in 1/32 saloon.

2 Lexan front wheels have been eligible in 1/32 saloon ever since they were introduced.  The Handbook and online rules have never said otherwise.

3 Please remember that they must be substantially upright and remain so when the car races.  Also that they must meet the dimensional limits, (min 15mm diameter and min 4mm width.)
